我從十歲就開始戴眼鏡了,如今我已年過五旬,昏花的老眼更離不開眼鏡。年輕時,我總覺得眼鏡是個累贅,特別是在運動的時候。有一次我打壘球把鏡片弄破了,花了幾個星期才修好。那段時間,我不論看什麼都是扭曲變形的。
在我們的生命中,痛苦所扮演的角色,就像破裂的鏡片一樣。痛苦會讓我們在自身經歷和信仰之間製造矛盾,讓我們對生命、對上帝產生一種錯誤且扭曲的看法。在這種情況下,我們就需要上帝賜給我們新的鏡片,幫助我們恢復清晰的視力。而清晰的視力往往是從定睛仰望上帝開始,詩篇作者就鼓勵我們這麼做:「主耶和華啊,我的眼目仰望你,我投靠你──求你不要將我撇得孤苦」(詩篇141篇8節)。只要清楚看見上帝,我們就能把人生經歷看個透徹。
遭遇痛苦、掙扎時,轉眼仰望主,我們就能在日常生活中體會他所賜的安慰與希望。他會幫助我們重新看清萬物。WEC

I started wearing glasses when I was 10 years old. They are still a necessity because my 50-something eyes are losing their battle against time. When I was younger, I thought glasses were a nuisance—especially when playing sports. Once, the lenses of my glasses got cracked while I was playing softball. It took several weeks to get them replaced. In the meantime, I saw everything in a skewed and distorted way.
In life, pain often functions like cracked lenses. It creates within us a conflict between what we experience and what we believe. Pain can give us a badly distorted perspective on life—and on God. In those times, we need our God to provide us with new lenses to help us see clearly again. That clarity of sight usually begins when we turn our eyes upon the Lord. The psalmist encouraged us to do this: "My eyes are upon You, O God the Lord; in You I take refuge; do not leave my soul destitute" (141:8). Seeing God clearly can help us see life’s experiences more clearly.

紅蘿蔔 破壞維他命C?
【陳惠惠】網路傳聞白蘿蔔的維生素C含量極高,但紅蘿蔔卻有一種對抗壞血酸的分解酵素,會破壞白蘿蔔裡的維生素C。
只要把紅蘿蔔跟富含維生素C的蔬菜一起烹調,紅蘿蔔都是個破壞者,所以,紅蘿蔔要跟肉類一起烹煮,才能獲得充分營養。
台灣大學附設醫院營養室組長陳珮蓉表示,維他命C的學名就叫做「抗壞血酸」,缺乏維他命C的人,牙齦易出血,這時候補充維他命C,可以抵抗牙齦出血。
擔心紅、白蘿蔔一起煮,會破壞白蘿蔔裡的維他命C,顯然有點自尋煩惱。維他命C本來就怕熱,經過燉煮,所剩早已無幾,跟不跟紅蘿蔔一起煮根本沒什麼差別。況且,吃白蘿蔔主要是攝取它的纖維質,並不是維生素C。
除非能拿出研究報告,證明紅、白蘿蔔一塊兒煮會出現有毒物質,這種情況才需要擔心。民眾與其怕吃白蘿蔔吃不到維他命C,不如飯後來片芭樂,維他命C的含量反而高得多。
至於紅蘿蔔裡的β胡蘿蔔素,屬於脂溶性維生素,跟油脂一起攝取,消化跟吸收率都會比較高。從這角度來看,拿紅蘿蔔燉肉,確實可以增加β胡蘿蔔素的吸收率,怕麻煩的民眾,則可以吃炒紅蘿蔔,或是紅蘿蔔搭肉吃,都能達到相同效果。
台北振興醫院營養師鍾子雯說,我不曉得這是不是最近的研究報告,但若著眼在維他命C的攝取上,此網路謠言觀念不盡正確。
對老人、幼童跟咀嚼障礙的患者來說,白蘿蔔較軟,確實是不錯的食物。但若從較嚴格的角度來看,比起很多蔬果,白蘿蔔不管是在纖維質、維他命C的表現上,都不算是太突出的食物。
其實,維他命C還挺「嬌貴」的,不只見到光、碰到氧就會開始減少,也禁不起熱。所以,要攝取維他命C,最好的方式就是吃現切的水果或生菜,不要期待從煮熟的蘿蔔、青菜吃進太多維生素C。
比起清蒸、水煮,肉裡的油脂,確實可以幫助紅蘿蔔裡β胡蘿蔔素的吸收,但只要同時攝取油脂或肉,也能增加β胡蘿蔔素的吸收率。
