12:17 法利賽人和希律黨人以為這個陷阱天衣無縫，一定能置耶穌於死地，不過耶穌極具智慧的答案，又一次揭露他們的私心和惡毒的動機。耶穌說印有皇帝肖像的銀幣應該給皇帝，但我們具有神形像的生命就應該屬於神。你是否把所有屬於神的東西給神呢？你具有神的形像，把生命交給神吧！
這樣，他們的關係挺複雜了……
12:19 按照舊約律法，男人若沒有兒子就死了，他的兄弟要娶他的遺孀，生孩子照顧她，也好為死者傳宗接代。那兄弟的第一個男孩被算為死者的兒子（參申25:5-6）。
