15:8-9 先知以賽亞也曾經抨擊偽君子（參賽29:13），耶穌把他的話應用在宗教領袖身上。如果我們聲稱尊敬神，而心卻遠離祂，我們的敬拜就沒有任何意義了。單單遵行宗教禮儀是不夠的，我們必須用真誠的行動和態度去敬拜，否則以賽亞的話也同樣是責備我們的。
你說你很認識祂，可問你祂是怎樣的，你又說不出，為甚麼？
15:9 法利賽人知道很多有關神的事，卻不認識神。研究宗教、甚至研究聖經是不夠的，我們必須回應神自己。
只注重個人衛生，卻忽略了言語和思想的清潔，這些法利賽人很可笑吧？你會這樣嗎？
15:11 耶穌提到猶太人有關飲食的規條，祂是在說：“即使吃了不乾淨、不可吃的食物，也不會令你們不潔；你們說的話和思想卻叫你們不潔！”這句話叫極注重個人飲食的法利賽人覺得十分刺耳。
